Pantech Breeze III (AT&T)

Plenty of shoppers still want cell phone that are "just phones." The Pantech Breeze III is aimed squarely at that group. The Pantech Breeze III looks very similar to the Breeze II (3.5 stars), but given the Breeze III’s mission, that’s probably a good thing. It’s still a solid choice if you don’t need much in the way of features, and want to avoid AT&T’s mandatory data plan charges.

Design, Call Quality, and Apps
The Pantech Breeze III measures 3.9 by 2.0 by 0.7 inches (HWD) when closed, and weighs 3.6 ounces; it’s a tenth of an ounce heavier, but a tenth of an inch shorter than before. It’s available exclusively in dark grey plastic, with a silver finish inside. The external, passive matrix color display displays the time and call status, as well as the track name, artist, and time slider when listening to music. The 2.2-inch LCD has 240-by-320-pixel resolution; it’s as sharp and bright as before. This is the easiest-to-use phone on the market today; the oversized function keys, five-way control pad, and numeric keypad make it simple to dial phone numbers and get around the icon-based menus. There are still three programmable shortcut keys up on the lid, beneath the screen; this time around, they’re also larger and easier to press than before.

The Best Android Phones

It's hard to believe that it's been just three years since Google's open-source Android mobile operating system hit the scene. When the first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, was released, the mobile landscape looked very different. Most people carried simple handsets that focused on making calls. If you were lucky, you could listen to music or play games on your mobile phone. Back then, you didn't have to have a smartphone that ran thousands of apps to let you, in the palm of your hand, do many of the things your computer could do. Apps weren't even a thing yet. Apple had only released the iPhone 3G and launched its groundbreaking App Store a couple of months earlier.

It was the introduction of Android that helped propel the app-based smartphone to what it is today. The thing Android offered, which Apple's iPhone couldn't, was choice. Since it was an open-source platform, several hardware manufacturers could use the OS on their handsets, and a variety of wireless carriers could offer those phones—and they did.

Phones With the Best Battery Life

Have you ever felt your cell phone vibrate and pulled it out of your pocket, expecting to to see a text or e-mail message, only to see a low-battery warning instead? Surely, you've uttered the dreaded words, “My phone is dying, so I have to say this fast!"

It may be time to consider investing in a phone with better battery life.

I don’t know about you, but the idea of carrying an extra battery or charger around, or even strapping a battery case to my phone is not all that appealing. But I’m realistic. Smartphones, with their big touch screens and fast processors, suck up a lot of power, so I’m not expecting to make it through the week on a single charge. Still, there’s no excuse for not being able to make it through the day.

BlackBerry Torch 9850 (Sprint)

Just when we were wondering when BlackBerry would end its smartphone dry spell, RIM announced not one, but four new smartphones for U.S. release, including the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and the full touch-screen cousin to the Torch, the BlackBerry Torch 9850. (AT&T has a version of the latter called the Torch 9860.)

RIM's history with all-touch handsets that don't carry its trademark keyboard has been spotty; it flew by the mark with its inaugural effort, the BlackBerry Storm, which turned us off with its lack of Wi-Fi and its awkward SurePress screen technology that required you to click the touch screen to select, the way you would a button. The revised Storm 2 was an improvement, with Wi-Fi, double the memory, and some performance fixes, but it still struggled to stand up to the competition.

BlackBerry Bold 9930

The BlackBerry Bold 9930 is the best BlackBerry Bold we've ever seen, full stop. Indeed, it's clear to us why RIM sees the Bold 9900 series as the flagship brand of its latest line of OS 7 handsets. Sure, the Torch 9810 has that slide-out keyboard and the Torch 9850/9860 boasts a full touch-screen interface. But the Bold 9930 builds upon the iconic BlackBerry design and improves it tenfold. The new Bold's stunning good looks, impressive feature set, under-the-hood improvements thanks to OS 7, and stellar performance firmly place it in the premium smartphone category.

Yet, we do have a few concerns. As much as we like it, the Bold's design is really more evolutionary than revolutionary, and OS 7 is also not terribly different from OS 6 in terms of the user interface. Moreover, we can't help but feel the Bold 9930 is a little overpriced at $249.99 after a rebate and a two-year contract. BlackBerry loyalists might be willing to pay the price, but it would be understandable to feel a bit skittish about paying so much for a handset that isn't correspondingly better than the competition.

2.8 Inch High Definiton TV Mobile Phone with Bluetooth and FM

I think some people like NBA, World Cup,but when these game playing, you have not TV to watch, you would be very despair, now the TV Mobile Phone will solved the problem. There are several definitions for TV mobile, according to most of the literatures it is a mobile device on which audiovisual content can be transmitted and has a small screen. According to its enthusiastic fans and bureaucrats, mobile television is an amazing invention. It will give a new meaning to the consumer's experience of television and audiovisual services. TV Mobile will provide opportunity to viewers to view any content anywhere and at anytime. It is at the juncture of new social trends, finer quality and swift access of media content. It is poised to transform into next generation consumer technologies. It is also at the edge of becoming highly valued and innovative services. Photovoltaic LCDs Could Help Keep Your Smartphone Charged

Check out what apps, hardware, and services are putting the biggest dent in your smartphone's battery life, and you'll likely find the display right up there at the top. AMOLED screens generate their own light, but for LCD-based systems, whether a pixel is black or white, the backlight behind it is still running full-blast, wasting a good deal of its output. A group out of UCLA has a new idea for how to make lemonade out of those lemons, adding photovoltaic elements to the LCD to harvest some of that wasted light and turn it back into electricity to help keep your smartphone charged.

Until there's a working prototype built-in to a modern smartphone and given some real-world testing, it's difficult to say just what effect this system could have on battery life, but the team claims that up to 75% of generated light is blocked by the LCD before it can exit the phone, and of that fraction, maybe 75% of it could be harvested with by photovoltaic elements – that means turning a little over half of wasted light back into electricity. Of course, photovoltaic cells aren't 100% efficient, so we'd see only a fraction of that fraction of that fraction of light returned to your phone as electricity, but every little bit helps.

Apple Patent Application Hints At Pico Projector In Future iPhone

A couple years ago, pico projectors seemed all the rage, or at least the hype behind them made them out to be. Super-miniuatrized versions of their big brothers manning conference and living rooms, they attempted to overcome the limitations of pocket-sized devices when it comes to sharing content with others and only having a tiny screen with which to do so. Just find a convenient wall, point your phone at it, and you've got an instant TV-sized display.

Today, you'll find the technology in some digital cameras, but it's never really taken off when it comes to smartphones. If there's one company with the muscle to take an underused feature and push it mainstream, it has to be Apple, and now it looks like the Cupertino may be interested in getting a pico projector into an iPhone, at least according to one of the company's patent filings.

Leak: First Look at Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Google has always named the major versions of Android after yummy snacks: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb. All but the last version have been operating systems for smartphones with Honeycomb being specific to tablets (and an upcoming release for Google TV).

Some of us were worried that the Android operating system would be "fragmented" across platforms, with separate versions for smartphones and tablets, making development more difficult for all. Google eventually quelled those fears by telling us about Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), which they said would integrate all the tablet-specific goodies back into the smartphone branch.

Rumor Round-Up: HTC Vigor, Samsung Stratosphere, LG Revolution 2

If all the leaked hardware info from earlier today for some of Samsung's upcoming smartphones wasn't enough for you, we've got a couple more rumors of future Androids for you to start drooling over, with info on devices from HTC, LG, and Samsung.

The Samsung Stratosphere is one smartphone we've heard will be coming to Verizon, and previous rumors had speculated that it might be the carrier's version of the Galaxy S2. This new rumor says that the phone is definitely on its way to Verizon, anticipated for arrival on September 8, but that it won't be the GS2 at all. Instead, the Stratosphere would be the SCH-i405 QWERTY slider, the first for the manufacturer on Verizon.

Motorola Droid 3 Review (Verizon)

In 2009, Motorola and Verizon announced the original Droid -- a highly popular device which kicked off, thanks to Verizon's Droid campaign, a revolution in which not only geeks had Android phones.

The Droid 3 is the latest model in the line, and we have the review for you. It still has the Motorola Droid "tail", and a slide out keyboard, but more has changed than has remained the same. How does it compare to its Droid siblings? Read on for the full review!

BlackBerry Bold 9930, Torch 9850 Sprint Release Info Leaked

When we saw some leaked pricing info for T-Mobile's launch of the BlackBerry Bold 9900, we suffered from a bit of sticker shock at its nearly-$300 price tag. Since then, we've learned how some Canadian carriers have priced the smartphone, but with their three-year contracts, we've still been anxious to find another subsidized two-year price to see if that rumored T-Mobile price will be the norm. Some newly-leaked Sprint docs reveal the carrier's anticipated release dates and pricing for the Bold 9930 (the CDMA version of the 9900) and the Torch 9850, and luckily it looks like the Bold will be a bit more affordable.

Could Microsoft Launch Mango On September 1?

We've been expecting Microsoft to flip the switch on Windows Phone 7 Mango sometime this fall, with the release of new Mango-running hardware and the distribution of software updates to bring the revamped OS to older WP7 models. A new rumor says that we might be getting that juicy Mango action a little bit sooner than fall, with claims that Microsoft will kick things off on September 1.

Pocket-lint cites "multiple trusted sources" as confirming this date, which would fall one day before the official start of the IFA 2011 consumer electronics trade show in Berlin. Presumably, many of those Mango-running smartphones would be up for display at the show following Microsoft's announcement.

Samsung Adopting Formal Smartphone-Naming Scheme

Hot on the tail of the whole bunch of planned Samsung smartphones we just saw leaked, another bit of Samsung news comes to us from Europe, revealing the company's new naming strategy to easily differentiate models into tiers.

Is the BlackBerry Bold 9900 priced out of the consumer range at $349.99?

Summary: T-Mobile flyers reveal the new BB Bold may be priced at a whopping $349.99 before a $50 mail-in rebate and that is with a 2-year contract.
