NOOK Color update adds six Time Inc. magazines

The Barnes & Noble NOOK Color has a new software update available, bringing the device to version 1.3. The update brings a couple of standard bug fixes for WiFi connectivity, and adds parental controls which would allow users to restrict access to the web browser. But, the big addition comes to NOOK Magazines, which now has six new Time Inc. publications. 

NOOK Magazines is one of the better features of the NOOK Color. NOOK Magazines offers extra interactive features like video and audio podcasts, photo galleries and more. So, these aren't just the standard print versions ported to a tablet. And, the big news is that NOOK has added six Time Inc. magazines to the mix: People, Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Parents, and Fitness. Even better, print subscribers get free access to the NOOK versions of these magazines. 

Unfortunately, this update is for standard NOOK Colors, and does not extend to the NOOK reader app which is available for any device through the Android Market. This means anyone who has rooted and installed a custom ROM will not be able to get these new magazines. Still, there must be a few NOOK users that haven't rooted, right?
