Hot on the tail of the whole bunch of planned Samsung smartphones we just saw leaked, another bit of Samsung news comes to us from Europe, revealing the company's new naming strategy to easily differentiate models into tiers.
Our understanding of the system is a bit hampered due to the source report being in Lithuanian, but with the help of a little Google translate, we get a pretty good sense of what's going on. The plan is to standardize the model labeling within the company's Galaxy, Omnia, and Wave (if you're into Bada) lines. The company will take a base model, like the Galaxy S, and then offer phones based off that hardware in R, W, M, and Y flavors, in decreasing order of both cost, and of hardware features.
Follow-ups to these phones will add a number, as with the Galaxy S2, and designations will added to signify special features: Plus for a spec-boost hardware refresh, Pro for a QWERTY keyboard, and LTE for, well, you figure it out.
The system sounds a little convoluted, especially if it's not immediately clear to a layman how R, W, M, and Y compare against each other, but we'll see how Samsung goes about releasing and promoting these phones before passing judgement.
