Acer Put A Second Ferrari Smartphone on the Grid

Many think of the iPhone 4 as the Ferrari of smartphones…well this special edition Acer’s Liquid Mini literally is THE smartphone of Ferrari. Any good Formula One fan worth their salt knows that Acer is the official IT sponsor for Scuderia Ferrari and make branded laptops, netbook computers and, of course, smartphones.
This is the second Ferrari smartphone to emerge from the Acer Android garage (the first being a somewhat underclocked device based on the Liquid E launched last year). The 2011 Ferrari phone is actually the Acer E310 Liquid Mini launched back in January. But look past the iconic prancing horse badge and the gleaming red paintwork and it’s a relatively mundane phone underneath all the glitz and glamour.
On the plus side though there’s exclusive Ferrari content preloaded ranging from wallpapers to engine ringtones on the Gingerbread equipped device, but there’s a somewhat underwhelming 512MB of onboard memory and in the age of the dual-core Snapdragon, the Liquid Mini makes do with a less than speedy 600MHz processor. A matching Bluetooth headset and an 8GB memory card also come as part of the standard package. More a phone for Ferrari fans rather than smartphone aficionados.
What’s under the hood:
  • 3.2-inch  touchscreen
  • 5MP camera
  • Android Gingerbread OS
  • Exclusive Ferrari F1 content
  • 600MHz Processor
  • 110×57.5x13mm, 105g

Acer didn’t provide any pricing information of specific release dates but did see fit to furnish us with a slightly highfalutin description of their new product: “The Liquid Mini Ferrari edition top and bottom dark chrome trims’ convey a sophisticated yet dynamic look, while the faultless red cover with the historical and fascinating Ferrari shield will blow everybody’s mind.
“Stylish, compact and all in subtle curves, it has been crafted to perfectly nestle in your hand so that anything you do on your smartphone is perfectly performed.”
We’ll have to wait and see if the Formula One-inspired handset lives up to the promises made by Acer’s copywriters!
