News on Sony Tablet S

As you may know, Sony is entering the tablet space with a couple of Android based slates, the Sony S1 and Sony S2, well apparently Sony in their infinite wisdom have now decided to change the names of the tablets to the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P and have now come clean on a few more details concerning the new tablets.

According to the guys over at the Boy Genius Report, both the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P currently pack Android 3.1 Honeycomb but the company has promised both slates will see an upgrade to Android 3.2 Honeycomb by the time they come out to play in the tablet arena.

So here’s what details have now been revealed, the Sony Tablet P, originally the Sony S2 will have twin 5.5-inch TruBlack displays along with an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, microSD slot and both front and rear facing cameras, will be WiFi and 4G capable and is destined for AT&T at some point.

The Sony Tablet S formally known as the Sony S1 will pack a 9.4-inch TruBlack touch screen, again with an NVIDIA Tegre 2 dual core processor, front and rear facing cameras, and microSD slot, WiFi, and weigh in at 1.33 pounds.

The senior vice president of Sony Electronics Networked Technology and Services division, Mike Lucas says, “These devices truly represent the best of everything Sony has to offer. From hardware to software and services, Sony Tablet devices embody all our innovations rolled into one.”

Both the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P will feature Sony Entertainment Network services including Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited, are PlayStation certified and come pre-loaded with Pinball Heroes and Crash Bandicoot.

As for pricing and availability the Sony Tablet S is available for pre-order online with the 16GB costing $499.99 and the 32GB costing $599.99. However there is no word on just when AT&T will make the Sony Tablet P available or at what cost.
